Whitwell student suspended over “hit list”

WHITWELL, Tennessee (WDEF) – A middle school student in Marion County has been suspended after officials say he created a “hit list.”

Marion County Schools officials say a sixth grade boy at Whitwell Middle had written six students’ names on this list.

After an investigation, administrators determined the boy wanted to threaten or hurt those people.

The families of those six students will be contacted by school administrators.

Mark Griffith/Superintendent: “We just want parents to know that safety is first and foremost in our school system, and we take all things serious, and we’re not going to tolerate anything like this whatsoever.”

The school system will have a disciplinary hearing at the end of this week to determine if further action is needed.
