A Meeting of the Minds: Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond and Fred Fletcher
Sheriff Hammond adds, "I’m very encouraged to know that there’s a new day here. I think we got all the players in place now."
If Fletcher is voted in by the city council as expected, he’ll take over the largest of eleven municipalities in Hamilton County.
Sheriff Hammond says, "I want to welcome you here and say you’re the big guy in town, the big player, and we’re going to cooperate with you however we need to."
And with a handshake, a new partnership is formed.
Fletcher says, "There are certainly challenges, but what’s very clear is that there’s also very willing partners in the community, law enforcement, both municipal, county, state federal that are willing and eager to help."
Sheriff Hammond says safety and security sometimes gets overshadowed by economic development and education.
Sheriff Hammond adds, "Now you and I are going to have the task to making sure the safety and security is where it needs to be."
Fletcher says he did his research and he’s ready to take on the challenges this city faces, like gun violence.
Fletcher adds, "I’m looking forward to coming back and getting to work."
And by that time he’ll have mastered the pronunciation of Chattanooga.
Fletcher will be moving from Austin, Texas to Chattanooga in the coming weeks.
However, an official date has not been set.
