Atheist lawsuit against Bradley Sheriff going to mediation

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – The atheist lawsuit against Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson is going to mediation.

The Cleveland Daily Banner reports that attorneys on both sides agreed to try the mediation process on Monday.

If they don’t resolve their case that way, they will return to court on August 24th to resume the lawsuit.

The decision came after the plaintiffs added two personal Facebook for the sheriff.

Originally, the lawsuit alleged that Sheriff Watson posted religious commentary at Easter on the official Sheriff’s Department Facebook page.

That account has since been deactivated.

But the Banner reports the plantiffs claim the Sheriff is “indirectly doing what he can’t do directly” on the other pages, so they included them in the lawsuit.

Last week, a judge rejected their temporary injunction against the sheriff to stop him from posting religious messages.
