Autopsy report confirms human remains of Cleveland robbery suspect

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Today, the Cleveland Police Department received the autopsy report from Knoxville Forensic center. It confirmed the bones were that of Joshua Arp .

There were no signs of trauma or foul play.

The cause of death was ruled as morphine overdose, manner as suicide.


CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On March 29, 2017, Cleveland Police responded to the area of Wesdell Lane in reference to human remains being recovered. Cleveland Detectives, Cleveland crime scene unit, Bradley County Sherriff’s crime scene unit and Bradley County Medical Examiner’s responded and processed the scene and nearby woods.

Bones were recovered and sent to Knoxville Forensic Center for an autopsy.

Due to the location of the bones, clothing and evidence located at the scene, it was suspected that the bones were that of the robbery suspect Joshua Arp.

Upon further investigation it was discovered by a criminal history search NCIC that Joshua Arp has been convicted of crimes that included accessory after the fact of 1st degree murder, abuse of a corpse and aggravated robbery.

Cleveland Police Department then contacted Tennessee Department of Correction and obtained the dental records of Joshua Arp. Those records were then sent to Knoxville Forensic Center to aid in the investigation/identification of the bones located on Wesdell lane.


CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Later June 30, 2016, family members of Joshua Arp reported him missing from the city of Cleveland.

A couple days later, numerous family members of Joshua Arp, including his mother and wife, called the Cleveland Police Department and identified Joshua Arp as the suspect of the robbery.

Cleveland Police Department then conducted a photo lineup for the employees of Central Pharmacy.

Joshua Arp was identified as the suspect of the robbery and a warrant was then obtained for his arrest for the charge of Robbery.

During the months following the robbery, Cleveland Police followed up on several leads locating and arresting Joshua Arp. Those leads were unsuccessful.


CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On June 30, 2016 Bradley County 911 received an alarm/hold up call located Central Pharmacy 1075 Peerless Rd.

Upon contact with employees they advised that a male entered the store, handed the clerk a note demanding morphine pills. The male was making a gesture that made him appear to have a weapon in his pocket.

The clerk then provided the male with the morphine pills he requested. Then he fled the scene.

Officers and k9 units searched the area around the pharmacy and detained 1 male matching the description of the robbery suspect.

After further questioning that suspect was released.
