Baylor Tackles New Season With a New Head Coach in Erik Kimrey
Baylor gets the 30-in-30 spotlight.
The Red Raiders went to the college ranks for their new head coach in Erik Kimrey.
But as News 12’s Brian Armstrong reports, Kimrey’s high school coaching record is pretty incredible.
Baylor High School football is going to look a lot different this season. With New head coach Erik Kimrey. The former South Carolina t
ight ends coach.
Said Kimrey:”You start from the baseline just try to install what you’re trying to do. Get to understand their culture and the little insecurities I have a school kind of things you’re learning and work around but at the end of the day it’s about people. We’ve got great people at Baylor school and I’m thrilled to be there.”
Even though he’s going from the College game to High school Kimrey isn’t new to the high school game. He became the youngest and fastest coach to reach 100 victories in South Carolina history and the only coach to have won six consecutive state titles.
Said Kimrey:”There’s not a whole lotta difference in it. You don’t have quite as much time to put in so you gotta be a little bit more efficient. The hatches or wire so that’s always an adjustment in terms of calling plays and defenses but at the end of the day it’s the same game. The thing about these guys their character and how much they love the game of football. It’s really be a part of it.”
Kimrey has a lot of talent to work with on the Baylor team including what he says is a QB battle between Hughes Picard and recent transfer Whit Muschamp.
Said Kimrey:”Whit decided transferring to Baylor. We’re very grateful for that he’s competing with another young man for the job right now but he’s doing a wonderful job. He’s a great kid and it’s a great family and we’re thankful he’s at Baylor. Use the card as a senior was no reserve role last year and doing some nice things. Competition so it’s good it’s healthy for every organization and for every position.
