Benefit held for injured Ringgold police officer raises $15k

RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF) — A benefit for an injured Ringgold Police Officer raises around $15,500.

The cookout style benefit was held Saturday in downtown Ringgold for Detective Wilburn Dycus.

Dycus was injured while on the job last month.

When he was working a vehicle wreck, a vehicle crashed into the car he was in.

Dycus had to have surgery, but has been recovering well.

He currently goes to physical therapy three times a week.

Many people describe the officer as a man that would do anything to help others.

Jeff Hullender who helped organize the cookout says the money raised is for Dycus.

“We know that all of the money raised is going to go to Officer Dycus and we’ll just let him use it as he sees fit. Because there’s going to be several things he’s going to have to deal with in the future, you know, his life might change after this so you know we just want to kind of ease the burden financially for him,” Hullender says.

Dycus is expected to make a full recovery.
