Beyond GOP governor runoff, 5 big races on Georgia ballots

(AP) – Georgia voters have a few key races to decide in runoff elections besides settling the Republican showdown for governor.

By joining the governor’s race, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Brian Kemp are vacating their current statewide offices. State Sen. David Shafer and former Rep. Geoff Duncan are on Republican ballots Tuesday in a runoff for lieutenant governor. Former Alpharetta mayor David Belle Isle and state Rep. Brad Raffensperger are in a GOP runoff for secretary of state.

Democrats have to elect a nominee to take on GOP state School Superintendent Richard Wood in the November general election. Democratic runoffs will also decide fall challengers for two Republican members of Congress: Rep. Karen Handel in the 6th District and Rep. Rob Woodall in the 7th District.
