Binswanger Glass making safety shields for stores and gas stations

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Local companies are continuing to step up to provide products that will help fight the spread of the coronavirus.

Many essential businesses are requesting plastic shields for their employees.

Binswanger glass makes auto glass, residential windows, glass for showers and even mirrors.

In March, they shifted their production to Plexiglas safety shields.

Robby Asbill, Binswanger’s Manager, says, “we’ve done it for several grocery stores, Circle K and Racetrac. Basically, the way we make them, we’ve got them with the wholes in them so that we could hang them right in front of their counters to keep the employees away from the folks that come in.”

They have already made over 100 of these protective shields.

Asbill says that as the threat of COVID-19 continues, they expect to make hundreds more.

Safety shields are not the last stop for this company.

“We’ve recently been asked to make intubation chambers or shields for the doctors so that they can place that over the persons head and it has two holes to reach inside so that they could actually intubate them if needed”, says Asbill.

Many companies are working hard to assist with helping others during this time.

Binswanger says that even though there is a shortage of Plexiglas, they will continue to help out as much as possible.

“It makes us feel great that we are able to still help out, still able to come to work, to get things done and keep people working”, Asbill adds.
