Bradley Central Looks to Build Off Last Year’s 9 Win Season
Cleveland, TN-(WDEF-TV) High school football season is just a little over a month away.
Time to kick off our 30-in-30 preview series as we take a look at 30 teams in 30 days.
Our first spotlight shines on the Bradley Central Bears.
After winning 9 games last year, the Bears want to go ten wins and beyond this year.
Said head coach Damon Floyd:”We’ve got a lot of good guys coming back. We’ve got a lot of experience. Played a lot of football. Obviously some key positions, especially on offensive and defensive lines we’ve got to replace.”
Another key position to replace quarterback.
Aiden McClary graduated.
Said Floyd:”Alex Walker right now is leading the competition. We’ve kind of taken the Tom Brady approach of just don’t lose the game. We’ve got some guys around him that can do some stuff with the ball, so he doesn’t have to win the game. He just has to get it in their hands and make plays.”
Last year we saw Bradley’s defense make some plays, and they have their entire linebacking corps back this season.
Said Floyd:”Knox Watson led us. He was all state last year. He has come back as a senior. We expect him to be not only a leader on the field but off the field.”
Said Watson:”You know we’ve all played like middle school together, so we’ve all grown up together. So it’s really nice having that really good close family bond.”
Team bonding is good. Team speed might be better.
Said Floyd:”We feel like we have really good team speed. You know hopefully we can take advantage of that.”
Said receiver Tito Williams:”Especially when we do our little skaley against each other. It’s just way faster than any other team we have played. Going against our receivers makes it harder on us. Makes our DB’s faster and better.”
And Bradley Central will rarely have to leave the Bears den this season.
Said Floyd:”We have seven home games. We had the turf put in last year, so we had to move some games and play away. Hopefully this year it pays off.”
