Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Signs new Contract with U.S. Dept. of Justice

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office has a brand new contract with the United States Department of Justice.

For the first time in 14 years, the contract will create huge increase in revenue, which will benefit not only the department but also the community of Bradley County.

Since 2002, the Sheriff’s Office has been given a daily inmate housing rate of just under $50, with a guard salary of $15 an hour. But now, under the new contract, the housing rate will go up to $58, with a higher salary of $17.

A proposal was also submitted to the Bradley County Commission, regarding the use of those funds, which includes hiring two additional correctional officers. And if the proposal is accepted, the money left over will be returned to the county’s general fund, which is expected to be more than $130,000.

The Bradley County Commission is scheduled to vote on that proposal in two weeks.
