Brand News: New Hamilton Place Stores, Sports Authority & the Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s situation
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – CBL & Associates Properties has landed two new brands for their flagship mall.
Oakley will bring their sunglasses to the lower level of the mall near the food court.
This store will allow customers to personally customize a pair in just five minutes.
Oakley’s also offers men and women’s apparel plus sports attire.
The store will open this summer.
The mall has also has landed the area’s second franchise of the Dos Bros Mexican chain.
the first opened in Cleveland last July.
Dos Bros will open in the food court this summer.
“Oakley and Dos Bros will truly complement our retailer mix here at Hamilton Place”, stated Dan Wolfe, Hamilton Place general manager. “We are thrilled to welcome them to the Chattanooga market.” Wolfe added that construction is set to begin this week and both stores expect to open later on this summer.
Sports Authority has all but given up the ghost.
It’s not official yet, but the company seems to be leaning toward selling off all their stores, with rival Dick’s sporting goods expected to pick up several stores.
But don’t count on any great close-out deals around here.
The closest Sports Authority stores to us are in Atlanta and Memphis.
The biggest impact for our area is news this week about the future of Cabela’s.
At the end of the year, the outdoor chain announced it would explore “strategic alternatives” even as it continued a bold expansion plan that includes the new store in Ft. Oglethorpe.
Now it looks like an alternative is selling the entire chain.
And their chief rival Bass Pro Shops is definitely interested.
That poses a problem here in the Tennessee Valley, since Bass Pro is opening a new super store in East Ridge, right across I 75 from the new Cabela’s.
What happens if the two rivals soon merge?
The new Bass Pro Shops is scheduled to open in mid-summer.
