Breaking down who wears seatbelts in Tennessee

Women and SUV's rank well, men and pickups not so much

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Tennessee’s seatbelt usage dropped slightly from last year, but we’re still above the national average.

Those stats come from the annual roadside survey by state safety officials.

We have a 92-percent average compared to the national 90-percent.

Here are a few other seatbelt stats from the survey.

SUV’s have the highest usage while pickup trucks have the lowest.

Women wear seatbelts more than men.

And passengers are more likely to wear them than drivers.

Tennessee ranks right in the middle of seatbelt usage among our neighbors.

We are ahead of Florida and Georgia, but behind Alabama and South Carolina.
