Business leaders want Ft. Oglethorpe to reject improvement grant

FT. OGLETHORPE, Georgia (WDEF) – Business owners and merchants on Lafayette Road leading into the Chickamauga Battlefield say unless the state of Georgia changes its plans, they don’t want any improvements.

27 merchants and churches have signed a petition to stop the proposed $ 3,000,000 improvement project because it only allows two breaks in a median which would obstruct turn-in traffic and cause a reduction in business.

Park Place Restaurant owner Jack Goodlet told us “We decided unanimously that we’d rather just not get the grant, as to do it that way, if indeed it was true that no changes could be done.”

“As it turns out the city has approached the GDOT, and asked them, and submitted some modifications, and the GDOT in turn started asking some questions, which would indicate it’s not etched in stone.”

No word on when the next meeting will be held.
