Catherine Goins pleads guilty to luring and then murdering new mom for her baby
RINGGOLD, Georgia (WDEF) – Catherine Joann Goins entered a guilty plea on Friday to charges of murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and kidnapping.
She was sentenced to life without parole.
On Sept. 19, 2014, Goins invited young mother Natalia Roberts to her home in Catoosa County to sell baby clothes.
Investigators say she shot Roberts in the back of the head, then took her two children and the family vehicle.
But she returned to the scene to clean it up, with the children.
She originally told investigators that she shot Roberts in self defense, saying she was trying to break into her home.
But investigators said the forensic evidence told a different story.
Prosecutors say Goins was trolling to steal a baby.
She had posted ads on Craigslist about selling baby clothes.
She had also faked pregnancies, even wearing a prosthetic pregnancy belly to pass as being pregnant.
