Central Purple Pounders “Coming For Glory”

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) They’ve got one of the best high school nicknames, and they’ve got the 30-in-30 spotlight.
We’re talking about the Central Purple Pounders.
After a run to the playoffs last year, the Purple Pounders want to raise the bar even higher this fall.

Central coach Curt Jones is always pacing with that white towel. He’s determined to take this program to another level.
Said Jones:”Last year we finshed the season as co-region champions for the first time in school history. To have that type of accomplishment. It builds a lot of atmosphere, but we’re also very disappointed with the way the season ended in the first round, so the kids have been hungry all off-season.”
Said receiver Donovan Smith:”I feel like we can do even better than we did last year with the practice that we have been putting in.”
Said quarterback Ronye Watson:”We’ve got something to prove now. We got co-region championship under our belt, so this season, we want region champions. We’re coming for the glory.”
We saw gridiron glory from quarterback Ronye Watson last year…as a freshman.
Said Jones:”Ronye stepped into a very difficult situation last year, and the thing that Ronye did is he ended up being voted region newcomer of the year. When you can do that, it’s a pretty good thing.”
Said Watson:”Just going into the season confident. Pretty confident.”
Watson has to feel more confident because he’ll be throwing to one of the best receivers in the city.

Jones:”Donovan Smith is going to be our senior wide receiver that’s returning. Had over a thousand receiving yards last year. 14-hundred all purpose yards. 15-hundred all-purpose yards. Just a great kid.”
