CFC Turning From Friendly to Unfriendly With Start of Regular Season.

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) It’s time for the CFC to be unfriendly.
Their pre-season exhibition matches or “Friendly’s” are over.
It’s time to kick off the regular season.
Chattanooga opens conference play at home tomorrow night against Emerald Force SC.

The CFC might feel like they went through spring training before starting the regular season. They played five exhibition matches, highlighted by a 1-1 tie against the Dallas MLS team. Head coach Bill Elliott says all of that preseason competition can’t hurt.
Said Elliott:”Well the people that are new to CFC. The players that are new. Many of them haven’t played in front these kind of crowds before. So for them getting the nerves out a little bit, and hopefully they will have settled in when the lights go on Saturday night.”
The CFC made the playoffs once again last year, but they were bounced in the first round.
Said Elliott:”People look back and they say oh, it was a disappointing season. And it was because we didn’t make that deep playoff run. But we did win our division, our side of the division and hosted the playoffs. We just didn’t go as far as we would have liked to have gone.”
Coach Elliott hopes his offense shines a bit better in 2018.
Said Elliott:”Our passing was great last year. It was as good or better than it has ever been, but just that finishing touch. We struggled to find our rhythm. We never really got going. Made a few mistakes in the back, especially in goal. Unfortunately that’s a recipe for disaster in soccer.”
It may take awhile to get a true picture of the CFC team, but it appears the chemistry is already building.
Said Elliott:”I think there is a good feeling of togetherness that I like that I’m sensing that reminds me of what we had two or three years ago. Now whether the players can deliver the big performances like the ones of two or three years ago. Hard to say. I’m definitely feeling a good sense of togetherness, especially for this early in the year.”

Saturday’s match at Finely Stadium is set to get underway at 7:30pm.
