Chase ends with crash, patrol car fire in North Georgia

LAFAYETTE, Georgia (WDEF) –  Officials say a chase that began in Fort Oglethorpe, ended in Lafayette, Georgia Saturday night. Lafayette Fire Chief Stacey Meeks says they were traveling southbound into Lafayette.

Meeks says it happened around 7:45 pm.

A Fort Oglethorpe Officer got out to place stop sticks to slow the suspect’s car in the chase. The patrol car then caught on fire at South Main and Lafayette bypass. The cause of the fire is unknown and the officer wasn’t injured.

The suspect crashed into the yard of Harbor Lights Baptist Church on Crane Street. The suspect is in custody.

Georgia State Patrol was involved in the chase.

Charges are pending in multiple jurisdictions. We are working to get more information about what led to the crash.
