Chattanooga airport begins expansion of terminal

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Pardon their mess!

The Chattanooga Airport has kicked off construction of Phase Two of their 20 year master plan to expand service.

The terminal expansion includes new space and renovating the existing concourse.

Airport CEO Terry Hart says “this project allows room for growth within the airport including additional departures and arrivals, so that we can continue conversations with airlines about new routes to and from Chattanooga.”

The project will add three passenger loading bridges, more restrooms and concessions, plus expand security lanes.

The new bridges are for new flights they hope to recruit.

The security expansion should speed up passenger traffic.

The new concessions will give the restaurant 70 seats plus 24 more at the bar.

“It’s difficult to increase boardings without more capacity, so growth is necessary for us to expand the market for our customers and remain competitive with other regional airports,” said Jim Hall, chairman of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority. “We want to keep existing customers and win over new ones as Chattanooga and nationwide travel picks up, and the terminal expansion is an important milestone toward our vision.”

Phase One of the plan wrapped up last July, with the construction of the new parking garage.
