Chattanooga firefighter charged with robbery

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – When you hear the word firefighter, the last thing that comes to mind is aggravated robbery, but that’s just what one member of the Chattanooga fire department is being charged with.

Chattanooga police received a call, shortly after 7 o’clock Sunday morning, of a convenience store being robbed on Hixson Pike.

After further investigation, they arrested 27-year-old Kyle Ratledge.

According to the fire chief, Ratledge was assigned to Station 19 as a firefighter for more than three years.

He’s described as a good, young family man without any previous incidents on his record.

Chief Chris Adams told us “It was pretty shocking to get that phone call this morning, and to hear that name. Public trust is our number one, that’s our blood line. So it’s a crucial blow to the fire department, when we hear something like that it’s gut-wrenching. Not only for the fire department, but for his family.”

Ratledge has now been placed on leave without pay, and was later taken to the Hamilton County Jail.
