Chattanooga Gives Back through “Giving Tuesday”

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF)- First there’s Thanksgiving–then 2 days for getting deals on “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday”, but there is also “Giving Tuesday” where Chattanoogans give back to their community.

That’s the plan as almost 100 non-profit agencies got together this morning to plan the second annual event in the city.

Mayors Berke and Coppinger were at the Chattanooga Choo Choo to promote the “Giving Tuesday” as a community-wide fundraising initiative .

Last year, the one day event raised 100,000 dollars.

Leslie Scearce, who is the CEO of United Way sates, CEO states, “We think that was a great way to get started. So, this year, the united way, Causeway and the Community foundation are teaming up to have an even greater ambitious goal—we would like to see a quarter of a million dollars raised in one day.”

The fund-raising effort will use the hashtags “CHAgives”  and “Giving Tuesday” as they promote the effort through community, business and social media.

Again, “Giving Tuesday” is always the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
