Chattanooga man charged with murder, kidnapping and arson

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A Chattanooga man is facing multiple felony charges after being indicted by a grand jury.

Ellis Bell Thornhill was booked into the Hamilton County jail on Friday and charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, arson, aggravate dassault and abuse of a corpse.

WDEF was not able to obtain the arrest report with the details because jail officials said the indictment means the case bypassed general sessions court and went straight to criminal court. The report won’t be available until Monday.

A judge set Thornhill’s bond at $200,000.

In 1996, Thornhill was convicted on multiple drug charges for selling and delivering cocaine. That same year he was also convicted on a robbery charge.
