Chattanooga man with long criminal rap sheet now accused of sexual battery
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A man with a criminal rap sheet nearly five pages long has been arrested for alleged sexual assault.
Craig Eberhardt, 30, of Chattanooga was charged with one count of sexual battery after the alleged victim told police he came up behind her and stuck his hands far between her legs.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, the alleged incident happened in the 400 block of Market Street.
The victim told police that she and her brother were walking to their vehicle when a man came up behind her then stuck his hand far up her dress. The woman also told police that a fight started as a result of the inappropriate touching. During the fight, she was reportedly hit in the mouth.
The woman eventually flagged down an officer in the 500 block of Broad Street and gave the officer a description of the man who assaulted her. She also said her attacker ran back toward Market Street.
Police caught up with the man matching the description and identified him as Craig Eberhardt. According to the arrest affidavit, Eberhardt admitted to police that he sexually assaulted her.
In addition to the sexual battery charge, Eberhardt was also charged with public intoxication.
His bond was set at $9,000.
Hamilton County court records show that Eberhardt has a history of multiple arrest and convictions for public intoxication, assault, vandalism, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, theft, and attempted retaliation against court officials. His nearly five pages of criminal convictions date all the way back 2007.
According to sources within the Hamilton county court system, Eberhardt has a record amount of unpaid criminal fines that total more than $130,000.
Eberhardt is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.
