Chattanooga police arrest another suspect in a deadly drug deal
On Monday, police arrested Robert Henry Thompson, 18, of Chattanooga in connection to the death of Charles Hosley.
According to investigators, Hosley, Thompson and another suspect identified as Briston Smith Jr., were engaged in a drug deal behind the Kangaroo gas station off of North Market Street.
At some point during the drug transaction inside Hosley’s car, the drug deal went bad.
Hosley’s girlfriend who was also a witness at the scene reportedly told police she heard one of the suspects telling the other to "Shoot him."
According to the girlfriend’s statement to police, two gunshots were heard just before Hosley sped away in his car and later wrecked in the 700 block of Market Street.
When police arrived on scene, they found that Hosley was shot in the back. He was transported to Erlanger where he later died from his injuries.
Police used fingerprints inside Hosley’s car that matched Smith’s fingerprints on file. Investigators were also able to match Smith’s cell phone to the same number on Hosley’s phone that was reportedly used to set up the drug deal.
Once in custody, Smith reportedly told investigators that Thompson drove him and a juvenile to and from the robbery and murder. Smith later told police that Thompson committed the murder knowing that the intent was to rob Hosley during the drug transaction.
Thompson has been charged with first degree murder, aggravated robbery and criminal conspiracy.
His bond was set at $250,00.
