Chattanooga smell investigation leads to chemical spill
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – After residents in several parts of the city complained of an acrid odor Wednesday morning, Chattanooga firefighters were sent out to investigate.
Eventually, a representative of Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry told them about an accidental spill.
They are located on Mueller Avenue in East Chattanooga.
Approximately two gallons of ethyl acrylate was spilled.
Company workers had already cleaned it up by that point, but they said that the aroma could last for several more hours.
Fire officials monitored the smell at several downtown locations, but determined it was not a public health threat.
The Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau is investigating the incident.
