Cherokee County man charged after shooting, stabbing

MURPHY, North Carolina (WDEF) — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Dallas Wayne Carringer of Murphy was arrested Sunday on charges from two separate incidents.

Deputies were called to the Hiawassee Dam Community around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 27th to investigate a report of a person shot. The sheriff’s office say deputies learned the victim was already en route to a local hospital in a personally owned vehicle.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was transferred to a trauma unit and is in stable condition.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation revealed that several rounds were discharged into a residence with another adult and a small child inside.

Authorities say their investigation identified Carringer as the suspect.

On Sunday afternoon around 2:15 p.m., the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Culberson community after a report that Carringer had stabbed a family member.

Deputies were able to locate and arrest Carringer near the scene of the stabbing.

Officials say the stabbing victim is in stable condition at a local hospital.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Carringer is now at the Cherokee County Detention Center and is charged with two counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent To Kill, One Count of Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent To Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, One Count of Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling.

In a press release, Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer said,“We are anticipating additional charges and continue to investigate this incident. I would like to thank all the public safety agencies, both paid and volunteer, who worked so diligently on this matter.”
