Chicago gang member convicted of heroin connection to Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – An Illinois man has been convicted of conspiring to distribute more than a kilogram of heroin in Chattanooga.

50 year old James Silas is from a Chicago suburb.

But they call him “the Prince” in the Mafia Insane Vice Lords, according to testimony in federal court.

Testimony identified him as the source of heroin for fellow gang members in Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Atlanta.

The DEA began wiretapping the gang in 2016 and gathered evidence against Silas.

The agency worked with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office plus law enforcement in the Chicago area.

A jury convicted him on Tuesday after a five day trial in Chattanooga.

He faces sentencing next April.
