Chickamauga dam receives funding for construction
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – After years of doubt about its future, funding for construction of the new Chickamauga lock has been set.
Senator Lamar Alexander, and congressman Chuck Fleischmann, say the fiscal year 20-17, Omnibus Appropriations bill, provides up to 19 point 3 million dollars to continue construction of Chickamauga Lock.
The current lock was built in 1941 and has needed constant repair.
Lawmakers say building a new lock will help keep 150-thousand trucks off the interstate.
