Chief Fletcher promises intense crackdown to find suspect who shot a baby
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher promised an stepped up police presence in Alton Park after Tuesday night’s drive by shooting that hit a baby.
The 22 month old was hit in the leg.
“Listen to me. These cowards shot a baby.”
Fletcher said his investigators have been working on the case through the night and are appalled by it.
They believe the shooting Tuesday night on Water Street around 10 PM was related to a pair of weekend shootings and the shootings on Tuesday.
The chief says that gang members were celebrating getting out of jail, when the car came by and opened fire on them.
He says a rival gang targeted them with disregard for the baby that was outside with them.
Chief Fletcher wants people to come forward with more information on the suspects.
“There are people who know who shot this baby.”
Police do have a description of a suspect vehicle, a red 4-door Sedan.
“If there is a gang member in a four door sedan, we’re coming to see you.”
The latest shooting happened on the same street where a man was killed on Sunday.
Chief Fletcher vowed there will be a stepped-up police presence in Alton Park.
