Chili with Coonrod hosted to bring District 9 community together

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Chattanooga City Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod held a chili cookoff today in the Mission Ridge Community.

One of the attends stood up and said, “My whole thing about being here today is being apart of District 9. I think it is so cool what she is doing in bringing her neighborhood together, to meet in a place like this, and do a thing like this and have this kind of camaraderie.

Along with enjoying chili and sharing stories, they were also able to discuss things going on in the different communities.

Councilwoman Coonrod brought out city officials so that her constituents could ask them questions and make suggestions about things in the area.

Doug Eckert, with the Missionary Ridge Neighborhood Association, echoed the sentiments in the room saying, “This has been something that I have been working towards with the rest of the people in our association up here on the ridge to be able to have relationships with each of the neighborhoods that we are close to. We are not separate, we are not on different sides of issues, we want to work together and come up with solutions to the problems that we all face. We all want to be secure in our homes. We all want to receive services that we want to receive for the taxes that we pay. We all want to see our city move forward so that we have good education, not just education that meets the letter of the law, but that provide opportunities for kids. This is a huge thing.”
