Chip’s Good Word: Soap Box Derby stories

2 champs from Athens, TN tell their stories on Saturday.

ATHENS, Tennessee (WDEF) – If you have ever considered getting your kids in on the Soap Box Derby racing circuit, we’ve got a good entry point for your on Saturday.

Two champions from last year’s race in Athens will share their stories at the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum Saturday at 11 AM.

Zeke Hembree and Juliet Couch will be there tell of their adventures on the circuit last year.

And they’ll explain what it takes to compete.

Soap Box Derby uses home-made racers without engines.

Gravity powers them down a hill.

You get two runs down the track and they average the two times.

The winners at the Athens race in June will go on to the Great American Soap Box Derby race in Akron, Ohio later in the summer.
