City Council Members Approve “Parklet” Ordinance

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Have you ever heard of a Parklet? Well they’ll be making their way to a few restaurants near you, after city council members voted to approve the ordinance Tuesday evening.

Parklet cafes create an outdoor dining experience, Chattanoogans have never seen before, adding an increase in sales to local restaurants, as well as a new scenic option to enjoy your meal.

“Imagine if you could drive down MLK, and see more people outside in front of the businesses,” said Matt Skudlarek, co-owner of The Bitter Alibi,  “I think it would totally change the whole kind of feel down here in a really positive way.”

Alcoholic beverages are only allowed to be served by employees of the restaurant, to those actually sitting in the parklet cafe. And since it was approved tonight, the ordinance should take effect within the next two weeks.
