Cleveland High School Basketball Team Off to 14-2 Start This Season

Cleveland, TN-(WDEF) Cleveland won 18 basketball games last season, and they’ve nearly matched that victory total this year with a 14-2 start.
The Blue Raiders have cetainly enjoyed playing in their new gym, but they would really enjoy playing in MTSU’s arena at season’s end.
Since Cleveland moved into the new Raider Arena this season, it seems they have raised their game to meet the standards of their new home.
Said forward KK Curry:”To be the first team in this gym is great. It feels like we have to do good things since we are the first team in this gym.”
Said head coach Jason McCowan:”Well I think after going through three years of not having a facility, and you go from not having one to having this. They’re very appreciative. You can tell they take a lot of pride in the way they play.”
Coach McCowan also appreciates having a player as versatile as KK Curry, who has already scored 40 in a game this season.
Said McCowan:”No question the fastest player I’ve ever coached. Just up and down the floor, but not only that, but getting off the floor. Just so fast.”
Curry may be the team leader, but McCowan tries to make sure everyone feels they have a role on this Blue Raiders team.
Said McCowan:”My goal and I’ve told them all year long, was to see how many different starting lineups that we could throw out there. That helps the kids be interested, and everybody likes to start. Everybody likes to play. It’s important to our players, and so they’ve bought into it.”
Cleveland has been to the state tournament only three times in school history with their last appearance coming in 2005. This year’s team hopes to put 2017 on that banner.
Said forward Dionte Ware:”Coach always says we’ve been lacking for these past couple of years, and he just wants us to make a name for ourselves.”
Added McCowan:”Special teams leave their mark. If you want to be a special team, you get to put your number on that banner.”
