Officials kicked off the annual Click it or Ticket campaign Monday at the Georgia Welcome Center on I-75.
The "Border to Border" initiative launched at the same time.
Officials point out the need to these safety initiatives since Peach State traffic deaths are up approximately 20 percent from this time last year.
Col. Tract Trott with the Tennessee Highway Patrol says, "No matter what state you’re in, whether you’re in Tennessee, Georgia or Alabama, the enforcement doesn’t stop at the line. We’re all looking for the same type of thing."
Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office Director Kendell Poole says, "87.7% of Tennesseans are wearing their seat belt, and that’s great, but we also know that over half of our fatalities come from those who are unbelted."
Click it or Ticket focuses on seatbelt safety during the Memorial Day holiday.
