Collegedale cop cleared after controversial citation stop

COLLEGEDALE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Facebook post alleging a Collegedale Police Officer had been racist during a citation has been thoroughly investigated and those claims are now proven to be false.
Collegedale Assistant Chief of Police Jamie Heath said the officer’s body camera footage told a much different story than the social media post
“The Facebook post made by the young lady’s mother, that had described a situation as relayed to her by her daughter where the daughter had claimed she had been racially profiled. We very quickly located the officer’s body camera footage from that evening. As we reviewed the body camera footage, we saw a very completely different story,” Heath said.
Officer Heath said they wanted to put the full story out there as a public service because of the abundance of anti-police rhetoric on social media.
“There is so much anti-police rhetoric that is out there. We wanted to put a picture out there that told the entire story.”
Collegedale Police Chief Jack Sapp said he takes any allegation of officer misconduct very seriously, and that citizens an lodge a formal complaint by receiving a citizen complaint form at the front desk of City Hall or online at collegedaletn.gov
