Collegedale police add stalking charge to sexual assault suspect

COLLEGEDALE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Collegedale Police have added a new charge against the suspect who is already facing a sexual assault charge on the Southern Adventist University campus.

Claude Finch III was arrested on November 17th after a female student said she was assaulted while running on campus.

Police say he also fled officers by speeding through a populated housing area.

And he was also a person of interest in another sexual assault complaint earlier in the evening.

But the new charge comes from the night before.

Another student had reported a scary encounter to Campus Security, but it was not forwarded to the Police.

After investigating her case, they say she had two encounters with Finch.

She said he harrassed her the day before in an incident with his car.

Then earlier on the 17th, she said he was following her again and she was “scared for her life.”

She says Campus security told her to park her car, lock the doors and wait for them.

But then he pulled up and parked next to her.

She decided to flee and he ran when the security got near.

As a result of her story, Collegedale Police are adding a charge of stalking against Finch.

He was booked on that yesterday after appearing in court on the original assault charge.

Finch is currently in jail without bond.
