Collegedale Police breakdown school zone infractions over the first month

COLLEGEDALE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A month into the new school year, Collegedale Police are offering a status report on how well drivers are minding school zones.

They patrol school zones for the Collegedale Academy schools (3), Ooltewah Middle and Wolftever Elementary.

Chief Jack Sapp says “Regardless if your speeding, using a handheld device, or carrying drugs through these protected areas, my
officers are keeping an eye out for you.”

His officers have cited 59 drivers in the first month and given 34 more warning citations.

Almost all were for speeding through the zones.

20 citations and warnings also involved using cell phones while driving.

And 3 were not wearing seatbelts.

Colledale Police also made 5 arrests in the school zones, including one DUI and one possession of narcotics in a drug free zone.

They were both pulled over for using cell phones.

The chief reminds Collegedale drivers that theses are the places and times to slow down:

Collegedale Academy Elementary school zone hours:
Monday through Friday mornings are 7:20 a.m. to 8:05 a.m.
Monday through Thursday afternoons are 2:55 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. and Friday afternoons 2:25 p.m. to 3:05 p.m.

Collegedale Academy High School and Middle school zone hours:
Monday through Friday mornings are 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Monday through Thursday afternoons are 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Friday afternoons 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Ooltewah Middle School and Wolftever Elementary school zone hours:
Monday through Friday mornings are 6:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Monday through Friday afternoons are 2:05 p.m. to 3:50 p.m
