Chattanooga gang member charged with carjacking; three more suspects involved
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A man whom police have verified as a member of the Rollin 20’s Crips is now being held on a $150, 000 bond after being identified as one of four people who took part in a carjacking.
Amear Richard, 20, of Chattanooga was taken into custody by Hamilton County Sheriff deputies on a warrant that was issued for his arrest.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, Richard and three other people took part in a carjacking this past Sunday.
It happened at the intersection of Bellview Avenue and Paw Trail after the driver and passenger pulled up to a stop sign.
The driver and passenger told police that as they stopped, four people with guns approached the vehicle from both the passenger and driver side and ordered the two out of the car. The victims were robbed of their wallets and their car.
More than half hour later, a debit card belonging to one of the victims was used at gas station on Highway 58.
One of the victims identified Richard as one of the suspects. According to that victim, Richard went to high school with him.
Police are still looking for the other people who were involved in the crime.
Hamilton County court records show that Richard has been arrested and convicted for crimes earlier this year. Back in January he was convicted for illegal possession of drugs and evading arrest. The following month, Richard was convicted for illegal possession of a firearm and evading arrest.
His next court date is on May 9.
