CSAS and CSLA change kindergarten application process

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Parents hoping to go through the kindergarten application process at the Chattanooga School of the Arts and Sciences and Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts need to be aware of a new timeline for kindergarten applicants hoping to enter during the 2017-2018 school year.

School officials say the three required steps of previous years are still key to acceptance, but the order in which they occur has changed.

Families must attend the three steps at the school they hope to attend.

If they are willing to attend either school, they must complete the steps at both CSAS and CSLA.

Step 1: Informational meetings at the schools.

CSAS will hold the meetings on September 15 & 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the school auditorium.

CSLA will hold the meetings on September 13 & 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Officials say the mandatory informational meetings are an overview of the Paideia philosophy, the school curriculum, and school citizenship expectations.

Step 2: The Lottery. After attending the informational meetings, all interested families with a child eligible for school 2017-2018 will receive a lottery application.

The applications will be completed and turned in following the information meeting.

The Lottery Drawing will be live-streamed September 30th from Hamilton County Department of Education Board Room.

This forms the waiting list for entry year 2017-2018.

Step 3: Tour & Seminar. Parents of applicants drawn numbers 1-75 must attend a school tour and Socratic Seminar in order for the child to qualify for admissions for the upcoming year.

CSAS School Tours – October 20, 21, 27, 28, 10AM
CSAS Socratic Seminar – November 10 & 15, 6 PM

CSLA School Tours – October 18 & 27, 9:30 and 10:30
CSLA School Seminar – November 10 & 14, 6 PM

You will find a link to sign up for these events on the schools’ websites following the lottery.

All steps of the kindergarten application process must be completed, as the lottery alone does not guarantee enrollment.

Numbers above #75 in the lottery will not be eligible for a space 2017-2018, but they will form the lottery admission list for future admission eligibility, grades 1 and above.
