Grundy Co. High School football players face attempted aggravated rape charges

UPDATE: Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum says five students have been charged with attempted aggravated rape.

The students are suspected of abusing a freshman with the metal end of a dust mop.

The suspects are 4 juniors and a senior at Grundy County High School. They are expected to be in court on Monday.

The Grundy County School Board has its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday. We will keep you updated if they discuss this alleged incident.

ALTAMONT, Tennessee (WDEF) – The District Attorney General over Grundy County tells News 12 Now’s Robyn Estabrook that he will file charges in the high school hazing incident.

Mike Taylor says he will file juvenile petitions against 3-4 of the players.

All we know about the incident so far is that it happened early Wednesday morning at the field house.

But Sheriff Clint Shrum is holding a press conference this afternoon to update new information on the case.

Director of Schools Jessie Kinsey says he has suspended Grundy County High football coach Casey Tate.

But the DA says there are no criminal charges involving him from the case.
