Dade Co Seeking Another Winning Season

Trenton, GA-(WDEF-TV) Dade County surprised a lot of football fans last year by upsetting South Pittsburg. This year, the Wolverines would like to do something even more special. Win a region title.

Dade Co has been at the bottom of the football mountain. But last year, the scoreboard favored the Wolverines. They had their first winning season since 2015.

Said head coach Jeff Poston:”Well I think they see they can play with anybody, which is a big thing. That’s crossing one of those mental hurdles. A lot of times they come out with a certain name across their chest, and the game is over before you even play it. I think last year they learned that doesn’t have to be the case.”

You need confidence, but speed and size at the skill positions doesn’t hurt.

Poston:”We got Zeke Wheeler who is 6’3, 210 pounds and runs a 4.7 forty.”

Reporter:”Describe Wheeler’s skill set and what a value he is to a quarterback.”

Said quarterback Brody Cooper:”Oh yeah. I mean he’s my bail-out guy. Jump ball. Just throw it up.”

Said Poston:”Quarterback is 6’3, 190 pounds. Runs a 4.56 at college camps, so that helps a lot.”

Cooper likes his backfield too.

Said Cooper:”Well last year we lost some guys. But Brandon Sullivan and others. We got some dogs at running back.”

Dade County will need to play like a bunch of mean dogs given their schedule.

Said Poston:”We have to grow up fast. We have Athens Academy coming in here August 19th. They look pretty grown up. (chuckles) So we better grow up fast.”

Reporter:”Do you kind of like these tough teams?”

Said Cooper:”Oh yeah. We enjoy being the underdog around here.”
