Dalton Catamounts Must Replace Several Starters to Repeat 2016 Gridiron Glory

Ringgold, GA-(WDEF) Dalton high school enjoyed a fantastic season last year, making it all the way to the state semi-finals before losing to eventual state champion Valdosta.
But if the Catamounts are going to celebrate more gridiron glory this fall, they’ll have to count on a lot of new faces.
Even though Dalton must replace 18 starters this season, the Catamounts remain confident.
Said defensive back Grant Goldberg:”We went to the Final Four, but I think a lot of people expect us to not be anywhere close to that this year. That kind of allows me and my teammates to play with a chip on our shoulder.”
Said head coach Matt Land:”A buddy of mine, Jeff Simpson, came in and spoke to the team, a former head coach at Buford. He made a great comment to our guys. He said guys, what was your record last year. And of course you know somebody said we were 13-1. He said no. It was 0-0 because this team didn’t play last year. It was a great point just to say hey, you are a new team. You’re going to get to write your own story.”
Veteran quarterback J.P. Tighe threw for over two-thousand-yards last season, but he wasn’t planning to return for his senior season so he could focus on baseball. Then he had a change of heart.
Said Tighe:”Just realized that it was best for me to be out here with my brothers, who I’d already been playing with for three years. I wanted to help the team and not leave my brothers out to dry.”
Said Land:”And so yeah, when he came back, it certainly re-opened our playbook.”
Tighe admits getting excited looking at the Catamounts offensive line.
Said Tighe:”Knowing that this will be my best offensive line for my senior year. I’m looking forward to being protected and stepping up in the pocket and delivering that ball.”
Said Land:”This is certainly one of our stronger offensive lines. It’s one of our biggest certainly in the last probably 15 years.”
America will get to see Dalton in October when they face Harrison and their all world quarterback Justin Fields.
Said Land:”The number one quarterback in the country on ESPN. We’re not playing on a local network. It’s it. Those privalages that come with that require more comittment from us.”
