Dalton charge Atlanta suspects with quick change scam at stores

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – Dalton police have charged two men from the Atlanta area with conducting quick change scams at stores all up and down I 75.

Investigators believe they hit several stores in the Dalton area over a three day period.

They are suspected of running the scam along the I 75 corridor from Atlanta to Illinois.

Dalton police say that at a Dollar General store, Howard Fuller acted as a lookout while Annise Smith bought a cheap product with a hundred dollar bill.

He would strike up a conversation, then asked for the hundred back, saying he had exact change.

After confusing the clerk, He ended up both the original bill and the change.

Dalton police discovered that their suspects had already been arrested in Effingham, Illinois for the same scam.

Investigators determined they visited ten stores in Dalton and it worked in three of them.

But Whitfield County has more cases.

The pair were in the area from October 9th through the 11th.
