Dalton police catch their church burglary suspect in Kentucky

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – Detectives have been working for weeks to solve a church burglary in Dalton.

Just as they got enough evidence to get a warrant, they learned their suspect had boarded a bus bound for Oregon.

But they talked police in Madisonville, Kentucky to intercept 22 year old Barry Hunter Flood when his bus stopped in their town.

Investigators identified Flood from a surveillance camera at the church after posting the image on social media.

The burglary happened at First United Methodist on Thornton Avenue early on November 21st.

The cameras caught the suspect entering the church through the daycare entrance just after midnight.

Detectives say Flood stole a laptop computer and vandalized a dry erase board and a sign-in sheet for the daycare.

They say the messages he left on the board were “God has forsaken us,” and “the devil really loves us.”

He was returned to Dalton on Tuesday.
