Dalton Police shoot barricaded woman at Hospital

They say she injured an officer while he was trying to arrest her

UPDATE:

The GBI reported more information on Monday morning’s shooting at Hamilton Medical Center.

It happened around 4:45 a.m.

Their preliminary reports said 41-year-old Chevona Doughty was barricaded in an exam room.

When officers entered, she threw an unknown chemical liquid substance into one of the officer’s eyes. It was later determined to be a hand sanitizer.

He was temporarily blinded and shot her.

Doughty was treated and released into police custody.

The officer was also treated and released.

Dalton PD have charged Doughty with Aggravated Battery-Officer, Obstruction of Officer and Criminal Damage.

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – The GBI will investigate an early morning shooting involving a Dalton Police officer.

Dalton Police say officers were sent to Hamilton Medical Center’s Emergency Department to deal with a person who was barricaded in a patient room.

They say the person was damaging equipment and refusing help from staff.

Police say she was hostile when they tried to take her into custody.

During the arrest, they say she injured an officer in the eyes, so he fired his weapon.

They treated her for the injury and expect her to recover.

The officer was also treated for his injuries.

The Dalton Police Department has requested that the GBI handle the investigation into the case.
