Day Before the Thanksgiving Holiday is the Busiest Travel Day of the Year

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn (WDEF) -“We will be out in full force looking for aggressive drivers and drivers driving excessive speeds in this high volume of traffic,”says Lt. John Harmon, with The Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The day before thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year.

and triple A expects over 1.2 million people in the state of Tennessee to travel by car to their holiday destination.

That number tops last year by three percent.

With the heavier traffic, routes are expected to be delayed and you should make sure your car is up for the task.

“Making sure you have performed that regular maintenance is important, if you haven’t done that at least get out and and check your tires for tire tread depth and air pressure,” says Stephanie Milani,  Public Affairs Director Designate for AAA.

The Tennessee highway patrol will also be out helping drivers get to their destination safely.

Troopers will be spread out across the interstate making sure everyone is following the rules but they say there’s a few things you can do to help yourself arrive alive.

Before you hit the road this thanksgiving break there’s a few things you need to make sure you do. Due to the heavy traffic you need to make sure you plan ahead for extra travel time. Make sure you, the driver , have buckled up; your passengers have all buckled up. Phones and other distractions are out of sight and out of mind and both hands are locked on the wheel.

Triple A expects traffic to start backing up starting Wednesday afternoon and get worse into the evening.
