Death Investigation in East Ridge
Hamilton County, Tennessee (WDEF)– There’s new information to a death investigation in the City of East Ridge.
After authorities found a dead body in the parking lot of East Ridge High School on Thursday night.
Authorities told News 12 they received a call of a well-being check.
“We went and found the person unresponsive. EMS was called. They determined that the person was deceased”, said East Ridge Assistant Chief Stan Allen.
That person was later identified as Jason Lamkin.
Authorities notified the victim’s family and when they arrived on scene they said Lamkin’s sister (Carol Smith) told them she received a call from his roommate and co-worker, Nicholas Sloan, earlier that night.
Smith said Sloan told her Lamkin was unconscious and he was leaving his body at the high school.
“The investigation shows he had been dropped off their by another party. we located that party. took him into custody. We do know that the victim and the suspect we have arrested had gone to a different location to buy some pills.”
Shortly before abandoning Lamkin’s body the two made a stop.
Authorities said on the way back their apartment Sloan noticed Lamkin was unresponsive and began shaking and yelling at him to wake him up. When that didn’t work he made the decision to leave Lamkin’s body in the parking lot.
Sloan said he has been charged with abuse of a corpse, but authorities said there may be other charges later.
Sloan is now out on bond.
Authorities said they are waiting on information from the medical examiner to determine Lamkin’s cause of death.
