DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office investigates weekend domestic assault incident

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WDEF) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible stabbing and shooting at a residence on County Road 51 in Fort Payne this past Saturday.

When deputies arrived they found 33-year-old Matthew Lucas of Gadsden with stab wounds.

Lucas was taken to DeKalb Regional Medical Center and then flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, where he is in stable condition.

Deputies found 40-year-old Horace Whittaker, also of Gadsden, in his car in Collinsville with gunshot wounds.

He was flown to Huntsville Hospital, where he is also in stable condition.

Deputies say Whittaker is the estranged husband of the female owner of the Fort Payne home.

DeKalb County sheriff’s say it remains an ongoing investigation that will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for review of pending charges.
