DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office warns of new deputy scam

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was informed of a new scam on Thursday.

The scam is that a guy pretending to be an Investigator or a Deputy with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, telling people that he has warrants on them for failure to report for grand jury, and that you can pay the amount over the phone.

The two names that they are being used are James Marshall with the phone number 256-801-0885, and the name Jack Phillips with the number 720-534-5137.

If you receive a call from one of these numbers or someone using these names, please know that this is a scam.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says, “Please remember that you do not need to give any personal information to anyone over the phone, and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office will never call you demanding money or telling you to pay a fine.”

If you have any doubt about the identity of anyone representing themselves as employees of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office hang up immediately and dial 256-845-3801 to confirm their identity.
