Deputies shoot man armed with a knife in Blount County

MARYVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – The TBI is taking over the case of an officer-involved shooting in the Maryville area on Tuesday afternoon.

They say the Blount County Sheriff’s Office got a call about a suspicious person behind a home around 1:30 PM.

Deputies say they came across a man armed with a knife.

From the TBI preliminary report: “At some point during the encounter, and for reasons still under investigation, the deputy fired shots, striking the man.”

The man was taken to the hospital, but did not survive.

No officers were injured.
