Detroit City Beats CFC 3-0 in Legends Cup Finals

(NISA) CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 25, 2021) – Detroit City FC earned the NISA Legends Cup championship here topping Chattanooga FC 3-0 before a reduced capacity crowd. As the 2020 fall champion, Detroit City already is in the 2020-2021 NISA championship match on July 3. By earning a place in tonight’s Legends Cup final, Chattanooga had already booked a spot in the June 30 season semi-final regardless of tonight’s outcome.

But that didn’t change the intensity of match. Detroit got on the score sheet early with a half-volley shot from defenseman Matt Lewis in the 11th minute. After some close-range chances by Chattanooga’s forward Brian Bement and midfielder Ian McGrath, a foul by Chattanooga defenseman Shaun Russell on forward Max Todd in the box earned Detroit City a penalty shot. Todd coolly put it into the upper right netting in the 36th minute. Forward Kevin Venegas scored a third in the 90th minute.

The Golden Ball for tournament MVP went to Matt Lewis of Detroit City. In the tournament he recorded the game winning goal in this match and the assist on the winner in the semi-final.


The winner of the spring season table will play Chattanooga in the semi-final.
